PARIS, FRANCE — The French Government plans to return thousands of African artifacts, looted during the colonial era, by uploading high-resolution images to a shared Google Drive folder.
France will share these treasures with African states via Google Drive, the government announced. President Emmanuel Macron, responding to journalists, claimed African nations lack the maturity to manage these valuable artifacts. He promised internet access for Africans to view them online, suggesting gratitude is due.
Dubbed “Operation Ctrl+Z,” the initiative reflects “good faith, peace, justice, and restitution,” the government stated. Macron pledged to teach Africans how to use Google Drive and hinted at future visas for a select few to visit the artifacts in person.
